Retro Reading: The Diva Frosts a Cupcake by Krista Davis
Business Partnerships Can Be Deadly
I've always thought it would be fun to plan a big fundraising event. Then I stop and remember the time in high school that I did and I still have nightmares about not being ready (well, it did take almost a year to plan and I still wasn't prepared the day of the event).
So it's no wonder I was sweating it out when I was reading The Diva Frosts a Cupcake the seventh installment in the Domestic Diva murder series.
Sophie Winston's best friend, Nina Reid Norwood is busy planning the first annual Cupcakes and Pupcakes fundraiser and is slowly pulling her hair out due to the stress. One thing she didn't plan on was hearing that one of the bakers' assistants, Muffin Pruitt would wind up dead.
All eyes point to Renee Gatewood and Joy Bickford, partners in Sugar Baby Cupcakes. Without anyone's knowledge, Joy opened up her own bakery literally overnight and cleaned out Sugar Baby Cupcakes' bank account. No one saw it coming until she opened up shop across the street from the original bakery.
This of course throws a wrench into the menu for the black tie dinner, but the dinner goes off almost without a hitch. Joy is poisoned at the dinner and rumors begin to fly that she's a drug addict.
Sophie loves a good mystery and before she knows it she and her friends are one step ahead of the police and inviting the killer to strike again.
Author Krista Davis has once again provided a great story and as usual Sophie's upstaged by her rival, Natasha. I still think Natasha should have her own series, but, it would be up to Davis to start it.
This series still remains fresh and fun and it's always amazing what Davis can come up with.
